A Three-Day Polio Campaign in Gwadar: A Child’s Awareness That Inspires Hope
A three-day polio vaccination campaign is currently underway in Gwadar, and an inspiring incident from UC South Gwadar has highlighted the importance of awareness in the fight against polio.
During the campaign, a polio team visited a house where a young girl was not present at the time, so she missed her polio drops. Shortly afterward, her elder brother came running to the polio team, holding his little sister’s hand, and said with urgency and concern,
“Where are the polio workers? My sister was left out. She needs her polio drops.”
The polio team was immediately called back, and the child was given her polio drops. The young boy was praised for his responsibility and awareness. This simple yet powerful act shows that even children can understand the importance of protecting others when proper awareness exists.
On one hand, this incident gives hope. On the other, it is deeply concerning that some parents still hide their children to avoid polio vaccination. Such behavior puts not only their own children at risk but also the entire community.
This time, UC South and UC Central of Gwadar have been declared red zones, as testing of sewage water has confirmed the presence of the polio virus in these areas. This makes the vaccination campaign even more critical.
Polio is a dangerous and incurable disease, but it is entirely preventable through vaccination. We must ensure that no child is left unprotected. May no child ever suffer from this deadly virus.
