Gwadar — the beautiful coastal city of Balochistan, once hailed as the gateway to Pakistan's economic future — is now crying out in thirst. A land rich in natural beauty and strategic importance, Gwadar is home to the much-hyped CPEC project, yet its people suffer daily for a single drop of clean water.
A Thirsty Gwadar — A Living Karbala
Every day, the streets of Gwadar echo with the chants of desperate protests. Children, women, and the elderly carry empty pots under the burning sun, demanding nothing more than water. These scenes resemble the historical tragedy of Karbala, where the thirst of the innocent was met with silence. While Gwadar is not a battlefield, the pain of its people fighting thirst is no less than a war.
A Basic Right Denied
Access to clean drinking water is a basic human right — recognized both internationally and within Pakistan’s constitution. Yet, Gwadar's citizens have been denied this right for years. Despite billion-rupee development projects and countless promises, the water crisis remains unresolved. This negligence has pushed people onto the streets in protest after protest.
Water Tankers: Costly, Rare, and Insufficient
Gwadar’s underground water is both scarce and saline. Government supply is unreliable and minimal. As a result, residents are forced to rely on private water tankers — often overpriced and hard to find. Sometimes, families go two or more days without access to water.
Government Silence, People’s Cries
The people of Gwadar have raised their voices again and again. Protests have erupted, media has reported, and social media campaigns have gone viral. Still, the government response remains limited to hollow promises. No long-term solution has been provided, and the suffering continues.
Is Gwadar Only for Projects, Not for People?
This is the burning question. If Gwadar is so crucial to national progress, why are its people forgotten? Why are they living in 21st-century Pakistan without access to one of life's most essential needs — clean water?
Conclusion
Gwadar is not just a city — it is a cry, a protest, a question.
As long as its people continue to suffer from thirst, our slogans of development will remain hollow.
It is time for the government to stop investing in just concrete and start investing in human lives.
True progress is only achieved when every citizen has the right and resources to live with dignity.

بلوچستان کا خوبصورت ساحلی شہر گوادر، جو پاکستان کے مستقبل کا گیٹ وے کہلاتا ہے، آج پیاس کی شدت سے کراہ رہا ہے۔ قدرتی حسن، بندرگاہی اہمیت، اور سی پیک جیسے منصوبے اس کے ماتھے کا جھومر ہیں، مگر دوسری جانب یہاں کے باسی ایک ایک بوند پانی کے لیے ترس رہے ہیں۔
پیاسا گوادر — ایک زندہ کربلا
روزانہ گوادر کی گلیوں میں، گرمی سے جھلستے ہوئے بچے، خواتین اور بزرگ خالی برتن اٹھائے احتجاج کرتے دکھائی دیتے ہیں۔ ایسے مناظر ہمیں کربلا کی یاد دلاتے ہیں، جہاں پانی کے لیے تڑپنے والوں کی صدائیں فضاؤں میں گونجتی تھیں۔ گوادر کی عوام کو اگرچہ کسی جنگ کا سامنا نہیں، مگر پیاس کی یہ اذیت کسی معرکے سے کم نہیں۔
بنیادی حق، مگر محرومی کا شکار
صاف پانی ہر انسان کا بنیادی حق ہے، جو آئینِ پاکستان بھی تسلیم کرتا ہے۔ مگر افسوس کہ گوادر کے باسی اس بنیادی حق سے برسوں سے محروم ہیں۔ بڑے دعوے، منصوبے، اور اربوں کے ترقیاتی فنڈز کے باوجود یہاں پانی کا مسئلہ جوں کا توں ہے۔ حکومتی بے حسی نے عوام کو سڑکوں پر آنے پر مجبور کر دیا ہے۔
پانی کے ٹینکر — مہنگے، محدود اور نایاب
گوادر میں زیر زمین پانی کم اور نمکین ہے، اور سرکاری پانی کی فراہمی تقریباً ناپید۔ عوام نجی ٹینکروں پر انحصار کرتے ہیں جو نہ صرف مہنگے بلکہ اکثر ناپید ہوتے ہیں۔ بعض اوقات لوگ دو دو دن بغیر پانی کے گزارنے پر مجبور ہوتے
ہیں۔
حکومت کی خاموشی، عوام کی صدائیں
گوادر کی عوام بارہا احتجاج کر چکی ہے، سوشل میڈیا پر آواز بلند کی گئی، صحافیوں نے رپورٹنگ کی، مگر نتیجہ صرف وعدوں تک محدود رہا۔ کوئی مستقل حل نظر نہیں آتا۔ ہر نیا حکومتی وفد صرف تسلیاں دے کر لوٹ جاتا ہے۔
کیا گوادر صرف منصوبوں کے لیے ہے، انسانوں کے لیے نہیں؟
یہ سوال آج ہر بلوچ، ہر پاکستانی کے دل میں ہے۔ اگر گوادر صرف معاشی ترقی کے لیے اہم ہے، تو وہاں بسنے والے انسان کیوں اتنے نظر انداز ہیں؟ کیوں اُن کی زندگیاں پینے کے پانی جیسی بنیادی سہولت سے بھی محروم ہیں؟
