Gwadar’s Police Officers — Protectors of the Polio Mission, Yet Left Behind | A Message to WHO

In the coastal city of Gwadar, polio eradication campaigns continue with dedication and hope. Alongside the brave health workers who go door to door, there stand police officers — the silent guardians who risk their lives to protect the teams in challenging and sometimes dangerous conditions.

Yet, once each campaign ends, these police officers in Gwadar receive nothing in return — no allowance, no recognition, no words of appreciation.
In contrast, in other districts of Balochistan, police personnel assigned to polio security duties are given at least some form of financial or honorary reward. The disparity is deeply unfair and disheartening.

This issue isn’t just about money — it’s about acknowledgment of service and sacrifice. When those on the frontlines feel ignored, their morale and motivation suffer. And without them, no health campaign — no matter how well-organized — can truly succeed.

We call upon the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Government of Balochistan to take immediate notice of this injustice. Gwadar is a sensitive and strategic region where security risks are often high. The officers who ensure the safety of vaccination teams deserve equal rights, recognition, and rewards — just like their counterparts across the province.

WHO’s support in ensuring fair treatment for these frontline defenders would not only be a gesture of justice but also a message that no hero of the polio mission is forgotten.

Let us remember: these officers are not just protecting health workers — they are safeguarding Pakistan’s future.

بلوچستان کے ساحلی شہر گوادر میں پولیو کے خاتمے کی مہمات جاری ہیں۔ ان مہمات میں جہاں صحت کے کارکن دن رات محنت کرتے ہیں، وہیں ان کے ساتھ کھڑے ہیں پولیس اہلکار — وہ خاموش محافظ جو اپنی جانوں کو خطرے میں ڈال کر ٹیموں کی حفاظت کرتے ہیں۔

لیکن افسوس کی بات یہ ہے کہ پولیو مہم ختم ہوتے ہی، گوادر کے پولیس اہلکاروں کو کوئی الاؤنس یا انعام نہیں دیا جاتا۔

جبکہ صوبے کے دیگر علاقوں میں پولیو مہم مکمل ہونے کے بعد پولیس اہلکاروں کو کچھ نہ کچھ مالی یا تعریفی فائدہ دیا جاتا ہے، گوادر کے اہلکار مسلسل محروم رہتے ہیں۔ یہ صورتِ حال نہ صرف غیر منصفانہ ہے بلکہ ان کی قربانیوں کی توہین بھی ہے۔

WHO اور حکومتِ بلوچستان دونوں سے درخواست ہے کہ وہ اس مسئلے پر فوری توجہ دیں۔

گوادر ایک حساس اور اہم خطہ ہے، جہاں سیکیورٹی خطرات زیادہ ہیں۔ ایسے میں وہاں کے اہلکاروں کو محروم رکھنا اُن کے حوصلے کو کمزور کرتا ہے۔ اگر واقعی ہم پاکستان کو پولیو فری بنانا چاہتے ہیں تو ہمیں ان محافظوں کا بھی خیال رکھنا ہوگا جو اس مشن کی اصل ڈھال ہیں۔

WHO سے گزارش ہے کہ وہ اس معاملے کو اپنی نگرانی میں لائے اور گوادر کے پولیس اہلکاروں کے لیے خصوصی الاؤنس یا اعزازی مراعات کی سفارش کرے — تاکہ انصاف ہو اور ان اہلکاروں کا جذبہ برقرار رہے۔

یہ صرف مالی مسئلہ نہیں — یہ اعترافِ خدمت اور احترامِ قربانی کا سوال ہے۔

گوادر کے پولیس اہلکار پولیو کے خاتمے کے نام پر دن رات محنت کر رہے ہیں، اب وقت آ گیا ہے کہ ان کی آواز بھی سنی جائے۔
