What Kind of People Are They Made Of?

The Prime Minister of Britain walks out of a meeting. In one hand he holds files, in the other his phone. Instead of heading to a lavish dining hall, he makes his way to the Foreign Office canteen. He quietly picks up a plate of salad, a pack of chips, and a can of soda. At the counter, he pulls out his own wallet, pays the bill, and walks straight to his next meeting.

It sounds like an ordinary scene. But pause for a moment. This man is the leader of a $5 trillion economy. He runs a country that shapes global decisions, where history is written every single day. And yet—there was no show of power, no entourage, no special privilege. Just simplicity.

Now close your eyes and picture our own society.
Here, even a Grade-17 officer (a mid-level bureaucrat) would feel insulted to eat a canteen meal. For them, dignity means luxury. We see long convoys of official cars, extravagant dinners funded by public money, and lavish lifestyles that seem less like service to the people and more like royalty on display.

So where does the difference lie?
Are British leaders made of some other kind of soil, while ours descend from another planet?

The truth is, it’s not about soil—it’s about mindset. It’s about systems.

In the West, people have set standards for their leaders. A Prime Minister there can be questioned by the media and the public for spending even a few cents of taxpayers’ money wrongly. Accountability keeps them grounded.

In our countries, the story is reversed. Here, public funds are treated like personal property. Those in power live on the sweat and taxes of the people, while the people themselves remain silent.

The difference can be summed up in a single line:

• There, leadership means responsibility.
• Here, leadership means royalty.

And until this mindset changes, we will keep asking ourselves the same question:
Are our rulers really human, or are they creatures from another planet? 🌍🤔

کس مٹی سے بنے ہیں یہ لوگ؟

وہ برطانیہ کا وزیرِاعظم ہے۔ ایک ہاتھ میں فائلیں، دوسرے میں فون۔ میٹنگ ختم ہوئی تو سیدھے دفترِ خارجہ کی کینٹین کا رُخ کیا۔ کاؤنٹر پر پہنچا، پلیٹ میں سلاد لیا، ساتھ میں چپس کا پیکٹ اور ایک ڈرنک کا کین رکھا۔ پرس نکالا، چند پاؤنڈز ادا کیے اور بنا کسی شور شرابے کے اگلی میٹنگ کی طرف بڑھ گیا۔

یہ منظر عام سا لگتا ہے، لیکن سوچنے والی بات یہ ہے کہ یہ شخص پانچ ٹریلین ڈالر سے زائد کی معیشت کا سربراہ ہے۔ ایک ایسا ملک جہاں دنیا کے بڑے فیصلے ہوتے ہیں، جہاں ہر لمحہ تاریخ لکھی جا رہی ہے۔ لیکن اُس کے انداز میں نہ کوئی پروٹوکول تھا، نہ کوئی مصنوعی رُعب، نہ ہی وی آئی پی رویہ۔

اب ذرا آنکھیں بند کریں اور اپنے معاشرے کا منظر ذہن میں لائیں۔
ہمارے یہاں تو گریڈ 17 کا ایک افسر بھی اگر کینٹین کا کھانا کھا لے تو خود کو ذلیل سمجھتا ہے۔ بڑے بڑے عشائیے، سرکاری خرچ پر دعوتیں، پروٹوکول کی قطاریں، گاڑیوں کے قافلے، اور ایسی شان و شوکت جیسے یہ زمین اُن کے باپ کی جاگیر ہو۔

سوال یہ ہے کہ فرق کہاں ہے؟
کیا برطانوی وزیرِاعظم کسی اور مٹی کے بنے ہیں اور ہمارے حکمران کسی اور سیارے سے اُترے ہیں؟

نہیں!
فرق صرف مٹی کا نہیں، فرق ہے ذہنیت کا، فرق ہے نظام کا۔

یورپ میں عوام نے اپنے حکمرانوں کے لیے اصول بنا رکھے ہیں۔ اگر وزیرِاعظم عوامی پیسے سے ایک کپ چائے بھی خرید لے تو اگلے دن میڈیا اُس سے حساب مانگتا ہے۔ عوام اپنی آواز بلند کرتے ہیں۔ یہی وجہ ہے کہ وہاں کا سربراہ اپنی جیب سے پیسے ادا کرتا ہے۔

ہمارے ہاں الٹی گنگا بہتی ہے۔ یہاں حکمران اور افسران عوامی خزانے کو اپنی ذاتی ملکیت سمجھتے ہیں۔ عام شہری کے ٹیکس کے پیسوں پر وہ شاہانہ زندگی گزارتے ہیں، اور ہم خاموش رہتے ہیں۔

فرق بس ایک جملے میں سمجھ لیں:

• وہاں عہدہ ذمہ داری ہے۔
• یہاں عہدہ بادشاہت ہے۔

اور جب تک یہ ذہنیت نہیں بدلے گی، ہم یہی سوچتے رہیں گے:
آخر ہمارے حکمران واقعی انسان ہیں یا کسی اور سیارے کی مخلوق؟ 🌍🤔
